Hi, I'm having trouble understanding the amount of drones that can be in a gang. The Tau drone-crafters rule states "Tau may utilize drone constructs." So how would this work?

Not a lot of starting warbands can get one. It has to say it in their list. But if you have access to an alien, you can get one for the tau.

Main example is Tech Adepts. It clearly says in there entree what you can get for constructs.

Well that leaves me just as confused as before because I interpret the rules the same way. What is the point of the drone crafters rule if drones are limited to certain warbands anyway? Thanks for your input.

The drone crafter rule lets the tau get the drone, no matter what list they are in. So, if you can get an alien, you can get a tau, who then can take a drone construct. So off the top of my head the following:
Radical Xenos Inqs
Smuggling Underworld Element
Void Pirates
Rogue Traders
Xenos Kill Team (*cough, cough*) Eventually, when it gets released.

So in all of those bands you can take at least one tau, who can then take a drone. Now in Void Pirates and Xenos Kill Teams, you could take multiple Tau, so multiple drones if you wanted.

OK so lets do an example to see if I understand this:
Let's take a smuggling underworld elements and assume it takes a tau in whatever rank. It shouldn't matter as all ranks do not gain constructs with the smuggling specialty. At gang creation the tau could still select drones? Or would this be more for after a battle in the bazaar? Thanks again.

Now, as it is written, I would say it would be in the Bazaar phase for them. But Mr Olsen would have to get on and clarify his intent with that. What me and my friends did is allow little things like that happen, if it added fluff to your gang. Because, it was kind of silly, because all you had to do was save your 30 creds and after your first game, you got what you wanted.

But that is something that you have to discuss with your gaming group. Remember, that these rules are ultimately and very nice guide line and no one is going to pop out of your Wheaties box and tell you, "You can't play that way." If it makes sense and your group agrees on it, house rule it.

As for the Drone Constructs rule:

If you have a Tau model, no matter what the warband list says, you are allowed to take a Drone. If you do not have a Tau model, you may only take a Drone if the specific warband list allows it.

This is important:

Races & Species entries over-rule specific warband limitations, unless specifically stated otherwise.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Which "main game"?
